Visitor Services and Engagement Program

This program focuses on enhancing visitor facilities, accessibility, safety, and eco-friendly infrastructure to create a welcoming environment for all. The Central Zoo is home to about 1,400 animals representing 120 species, including iconic species such as tigers, snow leopards, rhinoceroses, elephants, chimpanzees, ostriches, emus, and Nepal’s national bird, the Danphe. Alongside animal exhibits, the zoo offers interpretation centers, guided tours, and digital tools that combine recreation with conservation awareness. To ensure comfort and convenience, the zoo has established a dedicated waste management program, free access to clean purified drinking water, a baby care room, restaurants, a children’s park, boating facilities, and beautifully maintained gardens. In addition, the zoo provides evening services, remaining open until 7:30 PM, allowing visitors to enjoy the zoo in a unique and relaxed setting.

With the support of Lalitpur Metropolitan City, electric golf cart facilities are available for senior citizens and differently-abled visitors, making the zoo more inclusive and accessible. Visitors can also experience the refreshing greenery of centuries-old trees and the historic 400-year-old pond located at the heart of the Central Zoo. To further improve visitor comfort, phalchas (traditional resting places) and shade houses have been built, providing safe shelters from the sun and rain. Together, these initiatives promote a safe, enjoyable, and meaningful visitor experience that blends recreation with an appreciation for nature and wildlife conservation.
