Conservation Education, Research, and Knowledge Management Program

This program forms one of the key backbones of the Central Zoo’s activities. Through initiatives like the Friends of Zoo program, we actively engage students, communities, and visitors in diverse conservation education activities. Our outreach includes school visits, community programs, and on-site educational experiences for zoo visitors. The program also utilizes digital platforms and biofact centers to enhance learning opportunities. Participants take part in interactive activities such as animal feeding sessions, night guided tours with veterinarians, and competitions—including drawing, essay writing, and innovation challenges—focused on themes of nature conservation. To date, this program has reached over 500 schools and engaged more than one million students and visitors, fostering awareness, knowledge, and active participation in biodiversity conservation.

In addition, the Central Zoo provides platforms for Nepalese students to participate as volunteers and interns, gaining practical experience in wildlife management and conservation. We collaborate closely with the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation, the Department of Forest and Soil Conservation, Division Forest Offices, and protected area authorities for wildlife rescue, care, and rehabilitation. Furthermore, the zoo supports research by providing grants to university students to conduct studies on wildlife conservation, animal health, and welfare, thereby promoting applied research and capacity building in the field of biodiversity conservation.
